About
LINK is a pioneering initiative established in 2016 to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the fields of Art and Design through practice-led research. The platform is dedicated to exploring innovative ways of generating knowledge by placing creative practice at the centre of inquiry. By embracing a practice-led methodology, LINK encourages artists, designers, and researchers to develop new insights, methodologies, and frameworks that emerge directly from their creative processes.

A core aspect of LINK is its commitment to bridging global conversations, particularly those between the Global South and indigenous perspectives. Through conferences, exhibitions, and publications, LINK actively promotes the sharing of knowledge across disciplines and borders. The initiative places special emphasis on supporting emerging researchers, giving them opportunities to present their work, engage in international dialogues, and contribute to the evolving field of practice-led research. This approach ensures that diverse voices and knowledge systems are brought to the forefront of academic and creative discussions.

LINK also plays a key role in addressing the growing call for decolonisation in research. By challenging conventional research methodologies and promoting indigenous epistemologies, LINK aims to reshape the way knowledge is produced and disseminated in higher education. Its focus on indigenous perspectives and South-to-South collaborations reflects a broader commitment to creating more inclusive and equitable research environments.
Over the years, LINK has facilitated numerous international conferences, special journal issues, and curated exhibitions. These events have allowed practitioners from Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond to showcase their work, engage in meaningful exchanges, and contribute to a global community of practice-oriented researchers. The platform’s success lies in its ability to create spaces where creativity, research, and cultural knowledge intersect, fostering a dynamic and collaborative environment.

By prioritising collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and the promotion of emerging scholars, LINK continues to challenge boundaries and advance the field of practice-led research. It remains a crucial entity in shaping the future of creative research, offering a platform where innovative ideas and diverse knowledge systems can thrive and grow.
